Tree trimming

Trimming keeps a canopy off your roof, your service line and your neighbor's fence before any of them become an argument.

Most trimming calls in San Diego come down to three things: the canopy has grown into the house, the yard has gone dark, or a limb is leaning somewhere it shouldn't. We reduce end weight on the long limbs, open the canopy enough for air and light to move through it, and pull growth back from roofs, driveways and utility drops. Eucalyptus, ficus, pepper and pine all get trimmed differently, and we cut to the tree in front of us rather than to a set number of feet.

Tree pruning

Pruning is the slower, more selective cousin of trimming: fewer cuts, chosen for what the tree does over the next ten years.

We prune to keep structure sound — removing deadwood, crossing limbs, weak codominant stems and stubs left behind by earlier crews. Young trees get formative pruning so they grow one strong leader instead of three competing ones. Mature trees get cleaned out and thinned within reason. What we will not do is top a tree: flat-cut canopies push weak regrowth and are the reason a lot of San Diego trees fail two winters after somebody 'trimmed' them.

Tree removal

When a tree is dead, failing, or simply too big for the space it was planted in, we take it out cleanly and leave you usable ground.

We walk the site first: drop zone, access, slope, power lines, fences, irrigation and what's parked where. On an open lot a tree can come down whole. On a City Heights or Normal Heights lot with six feet between houses it comes down in sections, roped and lowered piece by piece. Stump grinding can run in the same visit so you're not left with an obstacle in the middle of the lawn, and we tell you honestly when a tree can be saved with pruning instead.

San Diego fire hazard compliance

Brush thinning and weed abatement that answer a City of San Diego or Fire-Rescue notice instead of guessing at it.

Properties backing onto canyons and open space get inspected, and the notice that follows is specific: reduce fuel within a set distance of structures, clear dead material, limb up trees above the brush line. We thin brush, cut back dry fuel from structures and property lines, limb up the lower canopy so ground fire can't ladder into the trees, and clear the dead palm skirts that sit over roofs. Bring us the notice you received and we'll quote directly against what it asks for.

Land clearing

Clearing overgrown parcels, side yards and build sites down to ground you can actually measure, fence or pour on.

Lots that have sat for a few seasons in this climate come back as a wall of brush, volunteer trees and ice plant. We clear the vegetation, take out the small-diameter trees and stumps in the way, and grind or haul the material depending on what you want left behind. Tell us the parcel size, the access and what the ground is for afterward — fencing, landscaping, a build, or just passing an inspection — and we'll scope the clearing to that.
